Directed Dialogues

Directed Dialogues do not give students the exact words to say. Instead, they give
situations or prompts and ask students to come up with sentences on their own.
Even though the sentences are student-generated, teachers can provide sample
phrases or vocabulary beforehand for students to practice and incorporate.

Example

A: Greet your partner, whom you haven't seen for a long time.

B: Respond to the greeting.

A: Ask about your partner's recent activities.

B: Respond. Then ask A about himself/herself.

A: Respond to B. Ask if he/she would like to do something with you this weekend.

B: Respond to A's invitation.
